Maintenance

The passage of time and wear can alter the properties of the artificial turf systems. A series of maintenance operations must be performed in order to maintain the initial technical conditions of the pitch.

ROUTINE MAINTENANCE

This must be performed by the owner or the operator of the facility with their own personnel and appropriate means in a simple and periodic manner.

FREQUENT IRRIGATION

  • To keep the surface free from residues of earth, contamination, etc..
  • To keep the flow of water in the drainage system.
  • In the summer months before use, to reduce the temperature and, at the same time, the abrasive level

PREVENTION, KEEP IT CLEAN SO AS NOT TO CLEAN
Some steps can be taken to keep the surface free of organic debris, dried fruit skins, pieces of paper, etc., such as the availability of waste bins, shoe cleaners, restriction of access, etc..
In any case, the rubbish can be removed easily by hand or with the use of a blower.

BRUSHING
Brushing the pitch crosswise is the easiest way to keep the playing surface in the best technical-sports condition.
This operation helps to keep the fillers correctly distributed throughout the playing surface and avoids the compaction of the granulated rubber.

EXTRAORDINARY MAINTENANCE

This must be carried out annually by personnel with specific technical knowledge and with adequate equipment.

SURFACE CLEANING

  • Use of a sweeper with rotating brushes to remove elements such as dried fruit skins, cigarettes, pieces of paper from the playing surface.
  • Use a micro-particle vacuum with brushes rotating in the opposite direction to separate waste due to vibrating sieves and aspirate the micro-organisms with an integrated turbine.
  • The granulated rubber is filtered, cleaned and redistributed with a gentle brushing from the rear of the machine.

SURFACE UNPACKING
To avoid damaging the surface, the flexible tips of the brush penetrate gently between the rubber granules to loosen and aerate the fillers.
In this way, the infill is unpacked and the playing surface recovers its original technical-sports characteristics. A special rotating brush machine is used

INSPECTION OF MARKING LINES, PENALTY SPOTS AND JOINTS
The joints and marking lines, as well as the most sensitive areas of the pitch are examined (the penalty spot or the corners), followed by the repair and/or replacement of the worn material.

GRANULATED RUBBER INFILL AND FILLING
The biomechanical behaviour of the surface can alter and cause injury to players in areas when the level of infill tends to decrease.
Restoring the granulated rubber infill to the appropriate level in these sensitive areas, allows for the recovery to the original conditions of the playing surface.

APPLICATION OF HERBICIDES
Due to the open structure and therefore very aerated, the weed seeds dispersed by wind, birds, etc.. can germinate in the silica sand.
To avoid this, a foliar absorption herbicide should be used as well as an anti-germinative treatment in specific areas.
